Bill’s Bugs

  Episode Three: Scared

You can find bugs, everywhere.  When you see them, it can be scary.

A bug scared my sister Mary. She felt a bug in her hair. It was a spider. She was very scared.

She jumped high in the air, and ran for the mirror.

Mary could see it now. She knocked the spider into the sink. Then she poured water on it.

The poor bug went quietly down the drain. She asked, “Will it crawl back up?” I said, “I don’t think so.”

But, it did. She screamed, and then our dog started barking.

Mom called out to us. “What’s wrong?”

Mary answered her quickly, “Mom, a spider is trying to get me!”

Mom asked, “Where, did you see it?” Mary said, “In my hair. Now it’s walking around the sink.”

Mom said, “Please tell your dog to be quiet. Did it bite you?” Before Mary could answer, I said, “Of course it didn’t.”

I said, “Don’t worry Mary. I’ll catch it and put it in with my spider, Noah. There is no way they’re getting out of my bowls. So you’ll always be safe.”

But poor Mary. The scary spiders were still after her. Were they at war, with her? At bedtime, one was on her soft pillow.

It scared her a lot. She roared out another long scream. I rushed into her room. I asked, “What is it?”

She cried, “Another spider! Look. There.  I thought I was very safe in my bed, but one got on top of it.”

I told her,”Well, Spiders can go anywhere. Spiders often get onto beds.”

Mary moaned, “Well, that’s just not fair. I’ll never sleep again.” I said, “Yes you will. Here. I’ll catch this one too.”

“And I also think I’ll name him. Did you ever hear of, The Who?” Mary scratched her head and said, “Nope.” I told her, “They’re a really old rock group.”

“They wrote this great song called, Boris the Spider. Welcome to our home, Boris!”
