A New Little Brother

“Sam, would you like to hold the baby?”

“I don’t know.  I’ve never held a little one.  Will he bite?”

“No!  He doesn’t have any teeth yet.”

“Will he spit on me?

“Maybe a little.  It’s no big deal.  Here’s a clean towel.”

“Will he wiggle in my lap?”

“Probably.  But it’s also likely that he’ll giggle with his wiggle.  Here.  Take him.  Just be gentle, and everything will be fine.”

Okay.  Wow.  He’s so tiny!  I don’t want to hurt him.”

“You’re doing just fine.  Cup his head in your hand, like this.  There you go.  Perfect.”

“I wonder what he’ll be when he grows up.  I hope he ends up being a rock star!”

“That would be fun.  But I think he’ll be a great reader, and then become a famous author!”

Uh.  Mom.  All of a sudden, there’s a really bad smell.”

“Okay, honey.  I won’t push you too hard.  You were really careful how you held him.”

“That’s enough for one day.  I’ll save diaper changing training for some other time.”

“Um.  How about NEVER on that one Mom?”
